Fish Monkey Nation Profile: Steve Pennaz

Steve Pennaz is a two-time Hall of Fame angler who specializes in developing and building enthusiast media brands across various platforms. His credits include the successful launch of more than a dozen national outdoor television series, an award-winning national magazine and several digital properties.

Pennaz started his career with North America Media Group immediately following graduation from the University of Minnesota School of Journalism. He served as Executive Director of the North American Fishing Club, which eventually grew to more than 550,000 members. He also oversaw the editorial development of award-winning North American Fisherman magazine, serving as the publication’s editor for more than 15 years.

He would go on to also oversee the organization’s outdoor television and video division, which annually produced 39 original half hours of national programming, including the organization’s flagship television programs: North American Outdoors on ESPN, North American Fisherman and North American Hunter on NBC Sports, and several series on Outdoor Channel, Fox Sports Net and Comcast, including The Tarpon of Boca.

Pennaz left NAMG in 2011 to launch Pennaz Multimedia. He hosts the award-winning television series Lake Commandos and vignette series Garmin Stone Cold Fishing. He also produces Yamaha Saltwater Playbook, as well as producing brand videos for leading outdoor organizations.

The quality of his video productions has earned Pennaz Multimedia numerous awards for programming excellence including Outdoor Channel’s prestigious Golden Moose Award (twice), Sportsman’s Channel’s Fan Favorite Fishing Show, and the Professional Outdoor Media Association’s Pinnacle Award.

Pennaz lives in Independence, Minnesota, with his wife Karen, and son Pierce, whom he affectionately refers to as “The Beast.” He fishes almost daily during the season and remains just as passionate about the sport as when he made his first casts as a young child.

“I enjoy connecting with people who share my love of fishing and value products that perform,” he says. “Fish Monkey is one of those brands. High quality products that exceed expectations for performance and durability, while offering anglers protection while they’re fishing. It’s been fun watching the brand continue to grow so quickly.”
